Institute of Geophysics of the CAS, v. v. i.

Lab equipment

We run a microscopy lab, labs with petrophysical experimental setups and an analogue modelling lab. The equipment includes the following key devices:

- petrographic microscope with a digital camera for observation and image recording in:

- plane- and cross polarised light

- UV-excited fluorescent light

- reflected light

- experimental petrophysical setups

- ultrasound pulse transmission measurement of P-wave velocity in many directions at high confining pressure

- kappabridge measurement of anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility

 - analogue models

Furthermore, we collaborate with laboratories equipped for electron microscope analyses and experimental measurements of permeability, porosity and magnetic properties of rocks. A brief info on the instruments and on their use in context of our research projects is given in the subsections.
