Jorge has been a PhD student at the Institute of Geophysics since June 2021. His primary academic interests are centered around two interconnected research areas: developing and refining automated machine learning methods to associate seismic phases in large datasets and deducing subduction zone processes from microseismicity, seeking patterns and trends that could provide valuable insights into Earth’s subsurface processes.<\/p>\n
He earned his master’s degree in 2019 from the Center for Scientific Research and Higher Education (CICESE) in Ensenada, Mexico. During this period, his research was focused on pull-apart basin structures and the evolution of the Gulf of California shear zone. This entailed conducting in-depth studies through seismic processing and seismic interpretation, where he analyzed geological formations, tectonic activity, and regional history to unravel the development of the shear zone over time.<\/p>\n
