Open Access (OA) is a model of scholarly publishing that provides free and immediate access to research results without financial or technical barriers. Its aim is to promote transparency in research, facilitate the rapid dissemination of knowledge, and increase the visibility and impact of scientific outputs.<\/p>\n
There are three main ways to publish Open Access:<\/p>\n
The article is published directly in an Open Access journal under a licence that allows free access and reuse. Publication costs are usually covered by authors or their institutions through an Article Processing Charge (APC).<\/p>\n
Authors deposit a version of their article (preprint or postprint) in an open repository, either immediately upon publication or after an embargo period specified by the publisher.<\/p>\n
Hybrid journals combine the subscription model with the option of making individual articles Open Access upon payment of an APC. This option is often more expensive than publishing in fully Open Access journals.<\/p>\n
For Gold Open Access and hybrid journals, publishers commonly charge an APC to make an article openly available. APCs vary depending on the journal and publisher. Some institutions and funding agencies provide financial support to cover these costs.<\/p>\n
Corresponding authors affiliated with CzechELib member institutions may publish Open Access in selected hybrid journals published by Springer Nature without paying an APC. Publication is funded through a limited number of APC tokens allocated to participating institutions. Eligibility therefore depends on the current availability of these tokens.<\/p>\n
The agreement covers selected hybrid journals and does not include BioMed Central, SpringerOpen, Scientific Reports, or Nature Communications.<\/p>\n
Eligible journals and further information:<\/strong><\/p>\n Corresponding authors affiliated with CzechELib member institutions may publish Open Access in selected hybrid journals published by Elsevier without paying an APC. Publication is funded through a limited number of APC tokens allocated to participating institutions. Eligibility therefore depends on the current availability of these tokens.<\/p>\n The agreement applies to selected hybrid journals (Core Hybrid Journals). Fully Open Access journals and Cell Press titles are not included.<\/p>\n Eligible journals and further information:<\/strong><\/p>\n CzechELib is a national project that provides centralized licensing of electronic information resources for research and educational institutions in the Czech Republic.
