Pavel Hejda (1951) graduated in 1974 from numerical mathematics at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of the Charles University and defended his doctoral thesis dealing with the numerical solution of the kinematic dynamo of the Earth in 1982. He is recently engaged in analysis of geomagnetic data focused on the impact of solar activity on solar wind and geomagnetic activity.

Pavel Hejda was in 1993-2007 Deputy-Director and in 2007-2017 Director of the Institute of Geophysics. In 1997-2005 he was a member of the Academy Council, the executive body of the Czech Academy of Sciences. He is leading the research infrastructure CzechGeo/EPOS – Distributed System of Permanent Observatory Measurements and Temporary Monitoring of Geophysical Fields.
