Our research

We investigate the dynamics of crustal scale deformation by combination of a range of geoscientific disciplines: structural geology, petrology, geochronology, geochemistry and analogue and computational modeling. Our group is working on the following topics:

  • Mass transfer dynamics in the lithosphere related to folding and melting
  • Relationship of the rheological structure of the lithosphere on the architecture of orogens
  • Impact of magmatism on deformation in orogens
  • Rheology of rocks reflected in their deformation textures
  • Rock physical properties and microstructures of rocks
  • Salt tectonics
  • Geomorphology
  • Analogue and computational modeling (e.g. salt tectonics, mountain building processes, anisotropy of rock physical properties)
