Team Leader: Prokop Závada
Our research
The team combines field geological mapping with scaled physical and numerical modeling of rock deformation to understand the evolution and dynamics of various geodynamic systems. We study the rock deformation mechanisms from the microscale to large-scale structures in the Earth’s crust. This allows us to track the evolution of geological bodies, consider the mass-transfer dynamics and make direct comparisons with geophysical models of studied areas.
- Current projects
- Ductile to brittle rheological transitions in highly crystalline lavas (project CRUSH)
- Mass transfer dynamics in the lithosphere related to folding and melting
- Structure and dynamics of shallow salt sheet intrusions (magnetotellurics, gravity and modeling) – the Tazoult salt wall in Morocco (Project GAČR 24-11150S)
- Magma flow pathways in oblique rift setting of the Reykjanes peninsula (project PROVOKE)
- Magma mingling processes in mushy portions of magmatic plutons
The core facility of the team is the Tectonic modeling laboratory.
